laser cutting/Engraving

We have two lasers of different wavelength to use based on the substrate and desired effect. Our CO2 laser is typically used to cut and engrave on large sheets of material where as our fiber laser is more suited for engraving on metals.

Materials

The following materials are suitable for laser cutting:

  • Acrylic

  • ABS

  • Delrin

  • Kapton tape

  • PETG

  • Polypropylene

  • Styrene

  • Thin carbon steel

  • Thin stainless steel

  • EVA foam

  • Gator foam

  • Paper

  • Cloth

  • Plywood

  • MDF

  • Hardwood

  • Rubber

  • Leather

The following materials are suitable for laser engraving:

  • Aluminum (anodized or raw)

  • Steel

  • Titanium

  • Stainless Steel

  • Plated metals

We stock clear, black and white acrylic in 1/8" and 1/4". All other colors are available with a 1-3 day lead time. We also stock a 1/8" and 1/4" maple plywood. Please inquire for all other materials.

Material Size

Our CO2 laser working envelope is 4' x 4'. Our fiber laser working envelope is 6" x 6".

Input Requirements

Most vector formats are compatible with either process (SVG, EPS, AI, Corel, DXF). Faces can also be picked from 3D models. We can also create the necessary files based on your sketch/drawing.

The laser beam kerf (thickness of cutting beam) may vary from 0.010" to 0.015" and possibly more. The kerf is a function of the laser beam focus. Materials such as wood do not always sit flat on the bed of the laser so the beam may not be in focus across the entire engraving/cutting area. The laser will follow the line in the vector file so the geometry in the input file should be offset to compensate. Typically the kerf is negligible and the input vector file can be sized according to the desired geometry with no offset.
